LWBJ: It's not Personal, It's Business
The fear of rejection in business and careers, is many times one of the biggest roadblocks to success, as rejection is simply part of business and life.
Thinking about this common fear, I was drawn to listen to this TEDx Talk: How Not To Take Things Personally. The speaker took a part-time job as a sports referee, to experience rejection and negative feedback at its worst. His goal was to hopefully learn to deal with his feelings and reactions. In a nutshell, he concluded that people's actions have either nothing to do with us or maybe they have all to do with us. And when they have to do with us, it is not necessarily due to how others feel towards us because of who we are, or what we do. It is mostly due to the fact, that other people's actions might trigger in us feelings, or assumptions, we have about ourselves.
People like to do business with people. So yes, business is personal. Our emotions and unique stories can be great for our business. However, it pays to train to manage emotions, and be alert to what triggers in us reactions that might not be the most desirable.
I invite you to watch my latest video on my youtube channel: What Triggers You? and maybe gain more insights.
"Business is personal, and relationships do matter," says Morag Barrett, the founder of the leadership development firm SkyeTeam and author of the new book "Cultivate: The Power of Winning Relationships." "This is a team sport. You are dependent on others for your success."
I will continue to send messages that will hopefully be inspirational and thought-provoking for you. I invite you to subscribe to the channel to be notified of new releases.
Stay healthy, joyful, and connected,
